What is a Functional Diagnosis?
Orthodox Medicine sees the causes for disease mainly in terms of pathological changes in organs and tissues; whereas Functional Medicine traces these causes in terms of energetic disturbances throughout the body, which are called 'functional disturbances'. Such functional disturbances appear when the body can no longer compensate and is usually the beginning of a pathogenic process, which can then manifest itself as a recognizable disease.
How is the Vegatest used in diagnosis?
The latest Vegatest equipment allows testing through one acupuncture point. For ease and comfort, this is done either on a finger or toe. A large stylus is used to press onto an acupuncture point (this is painless) and the resistance to the substance or information being tested is noted and recorded. Each level of information or substance is tested seperately. An initial pre-test of information is tested, which will then lead into more depth of testing. For example if Food Intolerance is picked up in the pre-test, then the 'Food' program is opened and each item in the 'Food' program is tested to find which types of food are causing intolerances.
The results from the testing is printed out and interpreted to the client where a specific individual protocol for that person is then designed. Follow ups are essential for long term success of the personalised protocol and to give guidance and support to the client. Depending on the individual, they range from 2 to 4 weeks for the first follow up, then monthly to 3 monthly follow ups until resolution of health issues and balance is created.

What to expect with a personalised health protocol
Everyone is individual but there are some common themes that affect us all, particularly diet and lifestyle. To create good health a balanced healthy diet is essential and this is addressed. There will be no doubt some dietary changes recommended, and these will be guided by the 'Food Allergy or Intolerance' results along with Blood Type food plan. Stress levels are discussed and some thoughts and tools to address this will be given as well as Natural Medicines and Remedies may also be prescribed. Other practitioners may be recommended such as Massage Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Osteopathy, Acupuncture, Councelling etc.
The VEGATEST Story
The VEGATEST story began in the 1950's when Dr.Voll, a doctor of orthodox medicine, studied a Chinese technique called Electro-Acupuncture (EAV). This technique required an experienced practitioner to make a minimum of 700 electrical readings on Acupuncture points before any conclusions could be drawn, so it was a very time consuming process.
Dr.Helmut Schimmel, who was a very capable user of the EAV technique himself, developed a shorter and less time consuming method in the sixties, measuring over only 150 points. He named this new technique Bio-Feedback Diagnosis (BFD).
Dr. Helmut Schimmel manufactured his equipment under the name VEGAMED (who manufacture high quality electronic measuring equipment) and further developed it in the early seventies under the name VEGAMED Resonance Test (VRT). With this technique the practitioner only uses one Acupuncture point and introduces different Homeopathic substances (Test Ampoules) into the measurement circuit, then simply reads the value on the display. The benefits of this method are enormous; less time is needed for the testing process, giving far greater sensitivity and simpler operation.

Children can be tested if they can sit still for 30 minutes. Unfortunately this makes it inappropriate for babies and toddlers. Instead, indepth questioning to the parent or caregiver in consultation is used to help babies and toddlers define their health problems.
